Week 9 Preview - 2022

Week 9 Preview - 2022

Thursday April 14, 2022 - 8:15PM
(6-1) San Diego Breakers at (7-1) Los Angeles Express
Line: LA -0.5
O/U: 53.5
Win Pct: LA 50.2%
The Breakers have been sort of a sneaky good team so far this season. They lost a game early on in the season, and have been sitting in the shadow of the Express within their division so far. Things can change Thursday night however with a win in LA, that would put the Breakers in first place of the West division, and sit them near the top of the conference. LA would love nothing more than to beat their division rival in prime time at home. With the Breakers defense, I believe we should have a tight game, where every score is going to be big.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 1:00PM
(6-2) Arizona Eagles at (2-5) San Antonio Texans
Line: ARZ -3.5
O/U: 44
Win Pct: ARZ 57.2%
The Eagles took a shocking loss to Portland in week 8, but maybe it was more of Portland finally coming together for a win, rather than Arizona laying an egg. Record wise, and on paper, the Eagles should not have lost that game, but there are plenty of games where that could have been said for Portland as well. This week provides a chance for Arizona to regroup, as they take on a depleted Texans team.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 1:00PM
(2-6) Baltimore Bluebirds at (7-1) Boston Bobcats
Line: BOS -5
O/U: 46
Win Pct: BOS 62.1%
After the Lightning loss to the Royals, the Bobcats are the new top team in the Eastern Conference. They can keep things rolling with a favorable matchup against the Bluebirds this week. The Bobcat offense got things back into form last week, and they should have another good outing this week.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 1:00PM
(4-3) Carolina Reapers at (2-6) Miami Sol
Line: MIA -1
O/U: 50.5
Win Pct: MIA 52.6%
Carolina needs to reset things. After a 4-1 start, they now sit with a two game losing streak. If there’s anything we know about these teams, it is that they will both keep this game close until the end. In the first matchup, these teams took the game into overtime, and each team has played another overtime game, with several other close games. I think this will turn out to be another good game coming down to the end.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 1:00PM
(3-5) Jacksonville Captains at (2-5) Atlanta Flying Fleet
Line: JAX -8.5
O/U: 41.5
Win Pct: JAX 72.0%
All of a sudden, the Captains aren't too far back in their division. The Reapers have lost two in a row, and the Captains got a good win last week. They will need a win to keep things rolling, and a divisional win will help them as well.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 4:30PM
(4-3) Las Vegas Outlaws at (4-4) Salt Lake Trappers
Line: SL -0.5
O/U: 44.5
Win Pct: SL 50.8%
The Trappers may be the strangest team out there. They beat the best competition they face, then lose to some of their inferior foes. So what do we expect this week from them? Given the Outlaws have a good defense, and garbage offense, I’d almost expect the Trappers to make this a high scoring game. But who knows. We’ll just have to see which Trappers players arrive at the stadium Saturday.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 4:30PM
(3-4) Pennsylvania Keystones at (3-5) Toronto Terror
Line: TOR -3
O/U: 46.5
Win Pct: TOR 58.6%
The Keystones sit atop the North division at 3-4, and the Terror can take that spot with a win. This will be a big divisional game in a tight divisional race, that looks like it could go down to the final weeks. Despite how bad the Terror have played at times, they can get back on the right track, and keep the momentum from last weeks win going. They’ll need there defense to show up again this week, as the Keystones offense has been known to go off from time to time.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 4:30PM
(6-1) St. Louis Brewers at (6-2) Louisiana Royals
Line: LOU -2
O/U: 43.5
Win Pct: LOU 54.3%
Big game brewing in the big easy. The Brewers are one of the best teams in the GSL, and the Royals have started playing like one over the past several weeks. St. Louis has by far the best defense in the league, having given up just 80 points so far on the season, 59 less than the next best teams. Louisiana is coming off a massive win against division rivals, and previously undefeated Louisville. This should be an excellent battle, that I’d expect to have a playoff type atmosphere and points at a premium.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 8:15PM
(3-4) Birmingham Owls at (3-4) Memphis Demons
Line: MEM -4
O/U: 48
Win Pct: MEM 60.0%
The Owls have got a little win streak going, and are coming off a bye week, so they should be fresh and confident. The Demons are also coming off the bye, so these two teams have had two weeks to plan for this matchup. Both teams are looking for a win here to keep some hope going for some summer football, so expect a good one here on Saturday night.

Saturday April 16, 2022 - 9:30PM (Tokyo, Japan)
(5-3) Seattle Sockeyes at (2-6) Portland Samurais
Line: SEA -3.5
O/U: 45.5
Win Pct: SEA 59.3%
The GSL International series makes its next stop in Tokyo, Japan. Two Pacific division teams face off, on what some could consider the first Easter game of the weekend, given it’ll be Sunday morning in Japan, while us here on the American continents watch the late Saturday night special. This would be a good win for Seattle to pull themselves further ahead in the Pacific division, with Oakland on bye this week. Portland finally pulled out a win last week, and a good one at that. Portland hasn’t been too bad, but just not good, and they have struggled to finish games. A win for them will start getting them moving in the right direction.

Sunday April 17, 2022 - 1:00PM Easter Sunday
(3-5) Wisconsin Stags at (2-5) Chicago Maroons
Line: WIS -4.5
O/U: 49
Win Pct: WIS 60.2%
Easter Sunday kicks off with a North division matchup, that, despite each teams records, is a big divisional game. The Maroons started the year 2-0, but have really struggled since then. The Stags on the other hand have turned things around after an 0-4 start, going 3-1 in their last 4 games. A win here would help the Stags move closer towards the top of the division.

Sunday April 17, 2022 - 4:30PM Easter Sunday
(4-3) Dallas Regulators at (4-4) Albuquerque Atoms
Line: ABQ -2
O/U: 45.5
Win Pct: ABQ 55.4%
Dallas and Albuquerque are in the thick of a race for one of the three wild card spots that is still tightly contested in the Western Conference. The Atoms, however, have really been falling apart these past four weeks, and are in danger of completely splitting at their nucleus, causing their season to head for a nuclear explosion. It’s been a bad past 4 games for Albuquerque, and they need to start getting back on track. Dallas is 1-2 in their last three games, including a loss to Oakland coming off their bye week last week. The Regulators are currently sitting in a wild card spot, so this would be a big conference win for them, or either team really.

Sunday April 17, 2022 - 8:15PM Easter Sunday
(7-1) Louisville Lightning at (1-7) Kansas City Buffaloes
Line: LSV -15
O/U: 47
Win Pct: LSV 83.6%
After losing their first game on the season, the Lightning are presented with a great opportunity to rebound. The Buffaloes have been a mostly hapless team that varies from bad to awful week by week, except for the one surprising upset against the most confusing team in the league, the Trappers. This is the largest spread and win percentage of any game thus far this season, so I expect the Lightning to come out and get things right this week, unless they start looking ahead.

Monday April 18, 2022 - 8:15PM
(3-5) Colorado Cabras at (4-3) Cincinnati Knights
Line: CIN -4.5
O/U: 47
Win Pct: CIN 60.5%
We finish the weekend in Cincinnati, where the Knights, coming off their bye week, will take on the Cabras. The Knights of course are in the league's best division, and will likely be looking up in the standings for the rest of the season. They’ll need wins for a more favorable wild card slot later down the road. Colorado, with a loss, would start putting their season in jeopardy, so this is going to be a big game for them just to keep pace with the rest of the conference. On paper, the Knights just outmatch Colorado.

On Bye: (5-3) New York CityHawks, (4-4) Oakland Icons, (1-7) Vancouver Bears, (4-4) Washington Stars
