2000's

Though we are in the infint stages of the 2000's it is apparent that this is the golden age of uniforms in the NFL. Teams all over the league are making changes. Some changes radical, some changes subtle but all in all everyone recognizes the importance of a quality looking uniform.

There doesn't seem to be a leaguewide standard so many teams assert some independent creativity. Denver boasts a uniform of swashy looking stripes while still others insist on adding more stripes to their traditional look. Helmets have begun to take on an individuality as well. Seattle introduced a metallic looking deep teal in 2002 while Minnesota came out in a lighter metallic purple.

The mainstays are still there like Oakland's classic silver and black and Chicago's Navy and Orange. The trend right now seems to be adding alternate flavors. The Saints sported an all black uniform in 2001 that seemed to go against the grain but seems to have been well received by other clubs. In 2002 ten clubs went with a monochromatic dark alternates while other clubs experimented with an all white combination.

In terms of socks Detroit is the only club to bring out a solid colored stocking for their Thanksgiving game and a few clubs went with black cleats. Some of these changes are for the surge in throwbackitis. The retro look seems to have taken a foot hold in certain corners of the league but overall teams are pushing for an overall modernized image to coincide with the popularity of the football world's visual identity.
