Dan FoutsUniform modifications were starting to take shape in the eighties. Engineering was at it's peek with the introduction of a multitude of different facemasks. Huge shoulder pads were beginning to crop up as the pace of the game increased and the size of the players escalated.

Unlike the seventies with big and bold colors, the opposite was beginning to take shape as teams went for subtle imagery. sleeve stripes were being reduced while logos were beginning to take a stronger role. Colored pants were beginning to take hold a bit while just about every team sought to unify their appearance.

All in all though the eighties were pretty uneventful in the way of change. Most teams coasted right through the decade with nary an alteration.
